Backcountry.com's latest website - www.departmentofgoods.com

Not one deal at a time, looks like it's just discounted gear. Not sure I can handle yet another of their gear sites, but I guess it's nice to have another place to check every once in a while! Prices didn't look face-melting, but we'll see...

It's basically just backcountryoutlet.com, renamed with a shittier interface.

Much harder to find things.

If you type in backcountryoutlet.com - it brings you to department of goods now

yea, I noticed that. They just renamed it and Cat hit the nail on the head as far as the interface is concerned

and there's no way to combine purchases from BC and the outlet now. Used to be able to drop something in the cart from backcountry.com and get free shipping for the whole cart regardless if it was outlet or not.

Oooooh, that's bad. :| I did notice it looked frustrating to use, but was assuming it was separate from the outlet.

one thing that didn't change is that you can get a minimum of 40% off still on all items at departmentofgoods. Not sure if this was common knowledge, but if you go to a site like SACAlerts.com, click on a link from a past item and click the link that takes you to departmentofgoods with the discount, then that coupon (which is a 40% off coupon) is good on any item they carry. The coupon appears to be good through 2010... expires Dec 31st

I use that 40% all the time. It's a good deal if something isn't 40% already.

The 70% off shopping feature doesn't work... I've found plenty of things that are 80-90% off, but don't show up in the show by percentage off thing... Really annoying and time consuming to find stuff.

The one on the main page is up to 70%. Use the java menu in the top right labeled "More ways to shop." I do agree that the new site is awful though.

Yes - using the more ways to shop and getting 70% off or more for various items, you do not actually get all the 90% off items to show up. I spent a couple of days going through almost every section i was interested - both through the more ways to shop and via the categories arranging things from low to high price. The more ways to shop link is crap.
